That's right folks ts finally here. My new Christmas series where i take a look at all the weird and pagan aspects of out favorite Christian holiday. Lets start out with the beginning. And it just so happens to pertain to the ancient Romans.
The origin for Christmas's placement on the calender comes from the Roman celebration of Saturnalia. It began on December 17 and ran on to the winter solstice. There were lavish feasts and all sorts of partying and merriment. Then for the celebration of the new year they would brink in and decorate evergreen trees and exchange gifts. Luckily enough many of the Roman Saturnalia traditions lent themselves nicely to the new religion of Christianity. We get most of our well known Christmas traditions from Saturnalia practices.
Well I hope You learned something and will pass along this info to your friends. As for me, I'm off to beat up some hobbits. Until next time...
